Mount Shasta, California

My hands never settle long on one material.

Leather, metal, glass, pigment, the click of a camera shutter. Always something new. The constant is the pull to make something I can hold in my hands.

  • Silver & turquoise
  • Glass & gold mosaic
  • Larimar, set in silver
  • Swallowtail, in glass
  • Turquoise pendant

For years I obsessed over technique, until mastering a skill drowned out the joy of making.

Then I found printmaking,

and printmaking meets me exactly where I am.

Fox in snow · hand-carved block print

Printmaking changed the way I look at the world. I notice the light and shadows hitting a leaf, the texture of a branch.

Nature is an invitation;

  • Block print of a quail among orange poppies
    every flower,
  • Block print of Mount Shasta under a full moon and clouds
    cloud,
  • Block print of a squirrel on a tree trunk
    and squirrel

nudging me towards a new print.

With the same basic process,

a print on beautiful paper, or on upcycled clothing: art to be worn.

On cloth

  • Moth patch
  • Fern tote bag
  • Snail patch

My studio is filled with everything from fine art prints to iron-on patches and block-printed upcycled clothing. The ideas multiply faster than I can bring them to life.

Meet the maker

Kim Angers

My style is a mix of sgraffito, illustration and nature. There's still more to discover, but I've learned to savor the making, to settle in instead of chasing the next new thing.

Maybe that's what I love most about printmaking.

It's not just a medium. It gives me somewhere to stand, with room to grow and observe. I don't see myself growing out of it. We're going to grow together.
